“That should do it!” April pushed the remaining dirt over the hole, burying the newly planted seeds, and showered water over them with her watering can. The Ambrosia Hyacinth was rumored to be a beautiful and rare flower, for only few had seen it. Fortunately, April met an old man in town who happened to be selling the seedlings for the flower. It was costly, but she bought the package anyway. It was a rare opportunity.

In the many weeks following, April devoted most of her free time to raising the ambrosia hyacinth. She watered it, nurtured it, and protected it every day to ensure it would thrive. More importantly, she was anxious to see it bloom and witness the fabled beauty first hand.

It happened one early morning. April stared in awe at the beautiful flower standing proudly in her garden. The indigo stalk was decorated with small, amethyst colored flowers. At the top, it was crowned with two larger flowers. Each were a deep violet, fading into indigo, blue, and then gold in the center. The petals were flecked with gold, making it glow in the early light. April breathed in the sweet smell coming off of the magnificent flower. She had done it; she had successfully raised this amazing flower with her own two hands. April knelt before the ambrosia hyacinth, pure happiness surging through her as she marveled at her hard work.

“Hey, could you not stare so much? It’s impolite.” April heard an unfamiliar voice nearby, but when she looked around, no one else was with her. She shrugged it off, thinking it was just her imagination.

“Are you even listening to me?” She heard it again. April stood up and looked around once more, but still no sign of who was talking. “Down here, Blondie!” April froze. She looked back down at her flower. “Yeah, hi. How long are you gonna gawk? I got better stuff to do.”

April couldn’t believe her ears. Was this plant talking? She was speechless. April knew this was a special kind of flower but she never heard anything about it speaking. “A-are you…talking to…me?” April said quietly, keeping her voice low.

“Is there anyone else here who I would be talking to?” The flower retorted.

“Hey, be nice to the girl!” said the young apple tree behind April, “She was only looking.”

“And? Look, Blondie,” the ambrosia hyacinth said, “I’m kind of thirsty, so why don’t you go get that dinky watering can and get me a drink.”

“O-okay.” April went to find her watering can, hearing the flower and the apple tree bicker as she left. What a rude flower! She thought to herself, this isn’t right; there must be something I overlooked. April found the package the seedlings came in and looked it over. There! In small print read a warning note:

WARNING: POLLEN MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS, NAUSEA, AND HALLUCINATIONS.

“Of course it does.” April sighed at her stupidity. By now, her whole garden was alive with voices of different plants, flowers, and vegetables. “This is going to be a long day…” April concluded. She filled her watering can and began her daily routine. “At least I’ll have someone to talk to.”

Day 5 of FFM!! Word count: 538. Kind of long, but oh well.

I followed the prompt "Plants suddenly start talking" for this one, incorporating my oc April (cherryberry545.deviantart.com/…) As well. This was fun to write!

Let me know what you think!! :3
